Evaluation 1:In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This clip of I Know What You Did last Summer represents the teenager target audience that we tried to go for by using teenager actors as they did as shown in the trailers. Also by using teenage issues that are relevant in today's society. We discuss and tackle cyber bullying and show the teenage romance that is also shown in I Know What You Did Last Summer between some of the characters in this movie and ours between Shelby and Billy.

I have researched many articles in the newspaper about cyberbullying and how it is a real threat to many people and their lives. One article is listed below. One of the reasons we chose to use Facebook in our film is that not only is it popular as there are over 500 million members that are active as Billy said in the video but it can become a real danger if put in the wrong hands which we tried to get that message across to the audience.
"The government is issuing guidelines to help schools tackle the problem of cyberbullying. But how does it feel to be on the receiving end of such abuse?
"We're going to get you tomorrow, you look like an ugly slut.
"There's no point in you wearing make-up because you look like a clown.
"You slut, no-one is going to touch you because you're a lesbian. You are a slag and you look like one. You need to get some friends because you have none."
Those are the words that schoolgirl Julianne Flory found posted about her on her social networking website.
Up until then her bedroom had been the only refuge from a campaign of bullying being directed against her by a group of girls at her school.
Julianne is now 17 - and keen to talk about the A-levels she is taking this year and her ambition to study sport science.
Cruel abuse
She is an engaging and attractive girl with curly brown hair who is good at judo and teaches swimming at her local pool.
Yet she describes being the victim of the most cruel abuse from girls at her last school over several years.
It started in the ordinary way, with taunts and shoves in the corridor. But then the bullies got access to Julianne's web page on her social networking site.
"Cyberbullying is worse than face-to-face bullying because it's bolder," she says.
"If they are willing to put insults up where more people can see them, it means they are more serious.
"If they say it to you in a playground, you can forget about it, but when it's posted in front of you it's there for you to constantly see, it sinks in more and you feel more threatened."
When the bullies managed to get access to Julianne's instant messaging service, things took on an even more frightening turn.
"When the message came up I thought it was a friend," explains Julianne.
Stab threat
"The conversation started normally and then they started saying the things they'd been saying at school, calling me a slag and a slut and all those words.
"Then they started saying they were going to get me tomorrow and I was going to be stabbed and my brothers and mum and dad would be hurt."
Julianne printed the conversation and took it to her father.
"He started shaking and crying," she remembers. "Then we went to the police."
The police managed to track the bullies down and used harassment orders to keep them away from Julianne and her family.
It turns out Julianne did exactly the right thing. The government's guidance on cyberbullying published on Friday advises victims to gather evidence to show to their head teachers, or if it's more serious to the police.
With the right information cyberbullies can generally be tracked down.
But it's harder to tackle those who've taken part less directly. They may be forwarding insulting texts or humiliating videos sent to them by the bullies.
They may be gathering round a computer screen with their mates to laugh at material posted on the web.
Next week the government is launching a campaign to make young people think twice before encouraging the cyberbullies in this way. A series of films will be posted on several social networking sites."

Also a point that Billy did not make in the film is that the film Tormented has influenced our storyboard as they the idea that they are trying to convey are very similar. In both of these films there is a teenage stalker seeking revenge on other teenagers by killing them in a gruesome way. Even though Tormented may be a bit more theatrical the principal is still there.

Final Finished Film-SENT!!

This is our final finished product of our coursework to produce an opening sequence to a thriller movie.

Evaluation

As our film is now finished and edited we have to now evaluate our finished product. The question that I will ask about the film are a follows;

  1. In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  2. How does my media product represent particular social groups?
  3. What kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why?
  4. Who would be the audience for my media product?
  5. How did I attract my audience?
  6. What have I learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
  7. Looking back at my preliminary task, what have I learnt in the progression from it to the product?

To answer these question I will be using many technics. I will be filming my fellow classmates to answer some of these questions on camera, do a presentation, do a powerpoint and pictures of frames from my film to illustrate the questions in detail.

First Draft of Sent

This is our first draft of our meida opening sequence to a thriller movie. As you can see from watching it is not a very good first attempt at this coursework. The music is out of tune, does not build up the suspence, does not flow very well and finally stops and starts throughout the whole  film which is not very realistic as in films the music flows from scene to scene by the use of sound bridges.  The titles are not very good as the film flows on the the titles com up. this is not a veryy good attempt as it makes the film feel very jercy and doesnt let the film flow. Fianly when Billy and Shelby are web-chatting to each other you can clearly see that it has been filmed in two different locations. thji was bad planning as we did not have enough time to film at that specific location.. However it does not work where they are edited in and stops the film from flowing.

Filming

The boys from the gathering scene

The girls from the gathering scene
Today we filmed the rest of the movie. We filmed both the gathering scene and he rest of the killing scene.

We have now chosen to make the party scene a small gathering as we could not get enough people to star in the movie and we thought that it would be more intimate for Billy and Shelby to meet if they were not at a party.

Filming Progress

Today in our Media class I edited some of the film together. Unfortunately due to technical problems part of what i edited last week was deleted. Therefore I had to start from the beginning.

I have now edited the titles, the park scene and most of the killing scene. We are now half way through filming and editing our film.

Also the reason we are not filming today the rest of the film is due to the fact that our leading actress Shelby is ill from a viral infection so she is not in today. So fingers crossed that she is in next week so we will be able to film. Otherwise we will have to make the decision of re-filming the whole other scenes and casting a new actress. .

Sent title sequence

This is our title sequence for our movie Sent. We chose to do it in this style as it reflects the movie. At first you can see that the word 'Sent' is being typed which mirrors the way in which is will be done as it will be on a computer. Also it movies up and down and creates shadows which gives it a scary look to the titles. Plus it is in black and white which also mirrors the way you type on a computer but is in opposite clours with the words in white and the background in black to show how twisted the film is.
